I dream them, shut my eyes and see them, I talk about them, my hands smell like them.. The list could go on!
You may be wondering why?
As of late, a new hobby of mine has been tomato tasting - similar to wine tasting.
... OK, not really. I couldn't think of any other way for tomatoes to seem appealing!
I am in fact, packing them. In a factory, 45 minutes from my house. And I start at 6am every morning. I know you're jealous really! What a career opportunity!
What a fine product!
So this is my bad situation. Oh and FYI, I think I'm like 1 of maybe 5 or 6 in the WHOLE place that speaks fluent English. That's also fun!
Making the best of the situation? So many ways!
This is my list that I've compiled of why I'm excusing this job to be a worthwhile one.
1. Money. (Had to be included!)
Pay day tomorrow and I don't think I'm going to sleep with the excitement of it. Its been nearly 4 months since I've had a pay day. The only thing that comes to my mind is this .. Money
2. Time.
So I wake up at 4.15am. Leave the house at 5.00. Arrive at approx. 5.45. Start work at 6.00.
My first break is 9.30 for 15 minutes. Lunch at 12.00 for 30 minutes. Home time at 3.00pm. During these times, I probably interact and talk with people for maybe 15 minutes during the lot..
This leaves me with looooads of time to think. (sadly thinking about what to write in this)
Since I've worked there - in my mind - I've planned a wedding outfit. A fancy dress outfit. I've worried about my Millie (my 8 month old cat that got attacked a few days ago)
I've probably thought about the colour of the sky I've had so much time!
3. Language.
I work with mainly polish people. The odd Spanish, Portuguese or Russian(!)
So for most people, there's a huge language barrier. Even for me! - in case you didn't know, I don't speak Polish..
However, it's made me think about learning a language. Its fascinating to see how other people can communicate via like 3 different languages and yet can understand it all. So that's one challenge I'm going to do! (AKA, looking into)
4. Humour.
Todays joyful moment was watching a middle aged Portuguese man singing "Here's my number, call me maybe...." I can only tell you how hard I wanted to laugh. Not something you see (hear) everyday.
What's also pretty amusing is tomato throwing at someone's overalls. Even though I'm not involved - to clear that up that I'm not the thrower, nor the receiver - its easy to have a giggle about.
5. Something's don't need a language.
I love that there's a few things that don't need to be said in polish or English - or Russian (!)
A smile.
Laughter
Numbers. (Math)
Tomatoes - they sound different, but they look the same. Funny!
My name !! Although it sounds way cooler in a Russian accent! (Don't ask me to do it)
6. Possibly the most useful.
Now I know ...
a) how to pick up several vines of tomatoes without any falling off
b) how to defer a split tomato from a non-split tomato
c) how to package tomatoes
d) what tools you will need to package tomatoes
e) what suitable attire you shall require to package tomatoes
f) how to weigh a tomato
I realise now I lost I must have been before this job, when I had no idea about any of those things.
If you ever have any issues with tomatoes. Be it packaging them, or removing them from packaging, I am happy to be of assistance.
Also, if anyone wants to learn a language with me, holla!
